This project began when Mali Davies Photography set the theme ‘Bottlescapes’ during a Patreon meet-up. Inspired by Rachel McNulty’s inventive work with bottles.

Mali led a lively discussion of her images and challenged the group to create our own variations to share at the next monthly session.

True to form, I left it until the last minute and only on the afternoon of the meeting did I begin to experiment.

I gathered together a number of coloured bottles, some empty, others with delicate strings of fairy lights inside, and the remainder still containing their various liquids. I then began to experiment with single and multiple exposures, using both groups of bottles in different arrangements as well as individual vessels, adjusting light, angle and focus as I went.

I enjoyed the process so much during that afternoon that I’ve decided to develop the technique further and make it an ongoing personal project, with plans to explore new setups and compositional ideas.
